Absolutely, the Aussie dollar follows gold closely for unclear and maybe coincidental reasons. So you can buy gold and gold stocks or Aussie dollars. I prefer everyone does the latter for obvious reasons :)

A friend of mine owns a couple miles of Australian beach front [in the middle of nowhere no doubt] he bought about 15 years ago for what he considered a song. Now he's trying to sell, and his return ended up sucking.... my suspicion is that the buyer will get a good deal BTWFDIK.
