That's not inflation roaring past. It's improvement.

I don't know, but somehow I would wager the old Beetle would hold up better in a crash test. In any event, safety improvements should show up in reduced insurance costs. This would be akin to double counting. As for amenities in a Beetle, I would ditch the cruise control and the power sunroof on a Beetle as I would prefer other transportation for a long drive on a hot summer day.
