if the rand would stay down they'd have great earnings if the POG were flat, right, costs in rand, sales in dollars?

I think the larger group that might be attracted to golds probably look more at XAU, NEM and ABX for any indications that something might be happening -- that's why there's little interest so far, even though HUI has kicked butt compared to the NDX, S&P if you look back through late last year.
