Sharon Clarifies Position On Talks With PLO

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon announced today that he will not agree to a Palestinian state before the cabinet deliberates the issue.

Speaking at Likud Party headquarters in Tel Aviv, Sharon acknowledged that there has been a decrease in terrorism, but attributed it to the IDF's initiated operations and not to a change in Arafat's policy.

Sharon reiterated that there will be no "diplomatic negotiations" with the PLO under fire, rather "negotiations for a cease-fire."

Regarding the Abu Ala - Peres agreement in the making, Sharon said that there are many problems with it.

The Prime Minister added that in the event that a cease-fire is achieved, he himself would lead any diplomatic negotiations.

No wonder, then, that a recent poll of French citizens shows that the majority believe (falsely) that prior to the establishment of the State of Israel an independent Arab Palestinian state existed in its place.

It's a weird experience to come back to the US from France and read about mideast events in the US media. One would believe it's a conflict taking place in some other part of the world, the media spin is so different.

This kind of poll result is because of the media coverage in France, which is almost universally against Israel. I just read yet again the other day that the kid that was killed "en direct" at the beginning of the present intifada while cowering in a corner in the crossfire with his father was "picked off by israeli snipers". And this was in Le Figaro, a right of center major newspaper.

It's just not possible for the average person to have an accurate view of anything without himself seeking out information outside the media. Even with the web, it takes some effort to find information that isn't just propaganda one way or another.

Incidentally, in the above article about the kid's father, he remarked that lots of money was collected in his son's name. He stated that a good part of the funds were embezzled away!

The best definition of "Palestinians" are the group of criminals and outcasts arabs expelled from their communities in Egypt, Syria and as far as Iraq and some illegal migrant workers. The Jerusalem present and previous mufti and Arafat and his gang of murderers are the living evidence of that ...... none born in the region west of the Jordan
