They had a good idea of what our ideals are, but we do not live up to them. The majority in this country despise huddling masses yearning to breathe free.

"We want your doctors and your software engineers, but keep your damned huddled masses to yourself, third world, where they can work in your sweat shops on our Nikes."

That's what the dear old lady in the harbor ought to say. But it was made by the French, afterall. And I'm sure even if they understood us rightly, they would never have put that on a statue intended as a gift. They have continental minds for goodness sake. And probably had some ulterior motive for the gift (NON- dit il ne ce pas)

I think this little forray may have been off topic. If so I apologize. And since it is pointless to argue with people wrapped in the flag I will cease to do so.
