8:13AM Micron Tech (MU) 31.17: Reuters reports that Hynix Semi may withdraw from its core DRAM memory chip business by selling it to Micron Technology (MU), citing Chosun Ilbo newspaper. In return, Hynix would receive a stake in Micron and a cash or equity investment from Micron in its non-memory chip biz. (On Dec 3, Micron and Hynix announced they were engaged in discussions regarding a strategic alliance).

7:59AM Nanometrics (NANO) 24.90: Co slashes revenue outlook for Q4 to -25% compared to previous guidance that revenues would remain flat for the qtr. NANO attributes the revenue shortfall to continuing overcapacity in the semiconductor industry as well as economic deterioration in the US and Japan. "The current demand for all semiconductor equipment continues to show significant weakness, which has been reflected in all companies in our industry."

7:47AM Sanmina-SCI (SANM) 20.37: In note out of DB Alex. Brown, firm mentions unconfirmed reports that Hon Hai has landed a massive PC motherboard contract from Dell. While details remain unclear, firm is concerned that PC OEMS are increasingly shifting PCBA programs to Taiwanese providers. In addition, believes that Dell is exerting severe pricing pressure across its supply base suggesting SANM margins will remain under pressure. Firm also concerned that departure of SCI's chief operating officer (who resigned this week) could disrupt process of integrating the companies.
