Re: "Funny - Dan 3 and most others on this thread keep claiming Intel cannot make enough Pentium 4's to meet the demand. I guess you all have a different story to meet whatever preconceived opinions you have."

Intel said months ago they would be supply constrained on P4s until the release of Northwood. It is becoming apparent that Pete simply pulls data out of his butt to serve whatever purpose he has at the time. Do you think Pete could actually be Dan3?

Dear Monica:

Evidently even with NW, the problem will persist until March at the earliest per Intel. What if the problem does not go away until 0.13 ramps enough to double P4 production which will not occur until Q4 next year? AMD will be making a lot of money and continue to gain share until the problem is fixed. Perhaps the P3 to P4 transition was early as I and others had stated. Intel gave up a lot of sales to make it happen and all this shows is that they will give up more than even they thought worst case. And this has happened even given the drop off of global CPU demand! If it was normal, think of how bad this would have been as AMD would have Fab 25 flat out making Durons with the maximum be fabbed out at $100 ASP (or better) and making money hand over fist with comparable to Intel ASPs of $150 overall. 20 million CPUs at $150 each would have made AMD profits of $1.2 billion each quarter. Fab 35 would be fast tracked at the minimum and Intel would have to share the market evenly from now on (no better than 60:40).

So they caught a big break with the recession.

Pete
