Yes, Jewel, there is a point where assigning blame with respect to historical events ceases to have much meaning.

Thomas Jefferson kept slaves. For along time the Supreme Court held slavery to be Constitutional. More recently, the Court held the "separate but equal" doctrine to be legal for a long time with respect to race. This proves nothing about who is better, or smarter, or more enlightened. Jefferson believed he was very "enlightened" to believe that the Negro race could never rise to the point where it would be capable of managing it's own affairs. Without a doubt, some of our most enlightened ideas of today will be regarded as perversions of truth by generations to come.
