What you describe is nothing short of extortion. It's time the extortionists are forced to pay a political price for it. And I think Mr. Bush, with the amount of good will the American people feel towards him, could afford to make a (mild) political gamble and call democrat's bluff. He should make clear - here's what we need, here's what we don't need, and here's who to blame if we don't get what we need and do get what we don't. Do you remember how President Reagan had to barter to get his tax cuts and his increase in spending for defense?
