Very interesting.
In one of those photos, they show a Japanese (?) version of Windows running on the dual SMT XEON [prestonia?] system. How could they get the OS to boot or run - unless it happens to be a Japanese version of Windows 2000 Server?

Dan3, Re: Note the boot screen: Dual Xeons with SMT are recognized as 4 CPUs.

So one CPU requires Windows XP professional (won't work with Windows XP)

Two CPUs requires Windows 2000 server (won't work with Windows XP Pro or Windows 2000 Pro).

That's going to get really expensive for some of the software rentals that charge on a per-CPU basis unless they make allowances for it. And while SMT looks good on a per-CPU basis it looks *Really bad* when you look at in terms of distributed application server farms.

PS -- Sorry about not killing the pre tag on my last post.

Dan,

Two CPUs requires Windows 2000 server (won't work with Windows XP Pro or Windows 2000 Pro).

I don't think so. You can always install single CPU programs on a dual CPU machine, such as installing Windows 9x on a dual machine. One CPU will just always be unused. I am pretty sure same is the case with SMT. If you install a single CPU OS (XP Home), the second virtual CPU will just go unused.

I am actually surprised that SMT Xeons are available for sale already. I can't wait to see the benchmarks.

Another reason why people are cutting the Bullshit and moving to Linux.
