It is amazing how lame and pathetic the 'actions' are that the Japanese government have tried to right their economy. They are too passive, and are a prime example of what a government should not do. Debt to GNP is 130%, the government build bridges and other public works projects to try and keep people employed, but just created infrastructure that requires more money for maintenance and staff, while not being very useful, compounding the problem. The large bridges they built to connect their small islands that doesn't carry much traffic comes to mind.

So now their are going to throw good public money down the drain through the banks, who need to bite the bullet, write down the bad debt and go out of business. Without fundamental reforms, these 'bandaid' measures only postpone the problems and indeed make them worse down the road.
