They put out 2 to 10 times as many parts per sq. ft. of FAB space (depending on what portion of Intel FAB space you want to exclude, and about 3 times as many per dollar of FAB investment - and that's while 2/3's of Intel's chips are 90mm2 PIII/Celeron or 79mm2 Tualatins.

AMD's Durons are 100mm2 and their Athlon4, AthlonMP and AthlonXP are all 129mm2. Only about 1/3 of Intel's parts are the 217mm2 P4s.
