DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - The United Arab Emirates confirmed Friday that a second national was among the Sept. 11 hijackers, corroborating statements by Osama bin Laden in a recently broadcast tape.
An Emirates official identified the man as Fayez al-Hamadi, listed on the FBI list of the 19 hijackers as Fayez Rashid Ahmed Hassan Al Qadi Banihammad. He is also referred to in the U.S. indictment of Zacarias Moussaoui, the Frenchman charged with conspiracy to murder thousands in the Sept. 11 attacks, by the alias of Fayez Ahmed.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, provided no further details about al-Hamadi.

According to the U.S. indictment, al-Hamadi was on the same plane as the other Emirates national, Marwan Al-Shehhi, who allegedly piloted United Airlines Flight 175, the second hijacked aircraft to hit the World Trade Center.

The indictment also says al-Hamadi opened a bank account in the United Arab Emirates in June.

Bin Laden said in a videotape broadcast Thursday on the Arabic news channel Al-Jazeera that two of the hijackers were from the Emirates.

Thanks for posting that, lorne; this is important news. The EU has actually declared Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hizbullah are terrorist organizations and is freezing their assets! Who knows? maybe the European papers will actually call them "terrorists" now? -g-
