Combined orders for computers, semiconductors and communications equipment "were the strongest since last June," said Ray Stone of Stone & McCarthy, a financial markets research firm. "This sector appears to have bottomed out. This is important because it was this sector that served as a major drag on overall manufacturing activity for about a full year."
