This is really interesting. I spoke once with an intel fab person and I was amazed to hear that they don't really know or care what the devices are. Not that it's secret but they are so into their own little world they don't care what the things do. They're chemists and physicists and the like and all they know is their own little speciality. I would have been far more curious about each one but I'm not in that field.
