Thank you DJ, for you have hit the nail (or tack) on the head, as it were.

Perhaps what I am seeing up close and personal is merely a difference in the degree of trying to be rational. Or differential degrees of success. Or perhaps it is merely a difference in perspective.

A kind of Me without reference to Us point of view, in which a house that is not the house I plan to live in, standing on my newly purchased plot of prime real-estate, is not so much an "asset" to be preserved, as it is a "liability" to be swept from the balance sheet.
