" With the 911 situation, a shortage of Pentium 4's and flat panel delays and perhaps other components, priority has been given to those major customers who needed replacement of items lost. The result being delayed shipments to individuals" I'm certainly not a major customer. I do order under the small business site. Two P4 systems configured exactly the way I want; one in November, and one in December. Both arrived in less time than I was originally told. The most recent one arrived in 5 days. Whatever problems existed with P4 seems to have been resolved. "computers and systems are getting more complicated each day, with DVD's, USB posts," I disagree.....in fact computer systems are probably less complicated than before. IRQ issues; compatibility issues are no longer problems. Device drivers now common for both Windows XP home and professional; platforms more stable than ever. Dell's systems are quite simple. Four PCI slots; 2 5" drive bays; 2 3.5 inch drive bays one of which will always contain a floppy. Dell further simplifies things by NOT allowing their new DVD+RW drive to be configured with anything other than the CD drive. Any potential conflicts are done away with. My newest system came with the new DVD+RW drive. Any info I needed about the drive was answered on DELL's informative web site. " I would no longer expect any one representative on the phone to be able to understand them all (the different combinations) as the product list grows" That is indeed setting a low bar. No rocket science is needed to explain the drives. Most individuals who would read a single issues of a computer buyers guide I bet can do it....DELL's reps should also be able to do the same. "With monitors shipped direct from manufacturers, Dell has to educate those companies to plan better and 'get with it' in shipping and support which takes time." Since November, I ordered three NEC 1850X flat screen LCD's from Dell's software and peripheral site. All arrived within 1 week of order. Dell seems to be doing a pretty good job with NEC-Mitsubishi! Any one dissenting view should be just as important as the views of the masses, but the poor experiences of a few with DELL as relayed on this board would have one to believe Dell is loosing their marbles. Left hand not knowing what the right is doing.....Dell will be the next Enron.....Dell fooling the masses.......MSD getting fat!!!etc... Even the lowest percentile of the graduating class can figure out DELL goes no where without repeat customers. They get repeats through GREAT customer service. Dell's retention rate is at record levels. With a recent peripherals order, Dell's site showed something being in stock when it was indeed not. Big deal. No system is perfect. First time this has occurred with an order for me in 5 years. What occurred next WAS important. I was notified via e-mail the next day. One quick phone call and was given a contact name. I e-mailed this contact and within 2 days my order was cancelled. No sweat. This is the norm; anything less is an anomaly. Recently had dinner at Jean-Georges...magnificent French restaurant in NYC. Eat there about once a month. Last time I was informed 45 minutes after putting in order that the duck dish I wanted was not available. Do I claim that the waiter doesn't know what the kitchen is doing who doesn't know what the Head Chef is doing? Is their infrastructure falling apart? Are they fooling the masses by offering the duck? Will I never go back there again? Like Dell's perfect customer service regarding my order cancellation, the restaurant made up for my disappointment with excellent customer service. I'll go there again; I'll be ordering more from DELL. "1. Lots of room for Dell to grow both sales and earnings. $100 bil in sales (see Kemble) is still in sight. Watch for more news about the new Fort Worth facility next year" You got it!!!!! And it don't matter if DELL stock goes to only 30 or to 100 next year. Dell is kicking a$$ on the business end. For DELL longs, this is what matters. Stock price will inevitably follow. A Happy and Healthy New Year. Remember our Troops in foreign lands. Kaka
