Is anything really based on supply and demand.
It's all collusion man.
The shells move around
Nothing matters man.
Supply and demand is the biggest myth on Wallstreet.

Earlie,

In the "for what it is worth column". As you know my daughter sells into the advertising and professional information archiving industry. Her suppliers are having pricing power and she is able to pass the increase in prices on to her customers. The supplies (batteries, film paper, film, special printing paper, photo quality ink, etc.) that she provides to her customers are increasing in price. She noted that both Kodak and Polaroid are increasing film prices. These supplies are where the margins are high. I purchased a battery from her for a camera and she said the mark up was over 200%. <g> The equipment she sells is giving the customer more capabilities and the prices are stable. This is a niche business of high resolution equipment. Her customers use Macintosh computers, Adobe software, high end scanning equipment, photo quality printers, high resolution cameras ($50,000 to $300,000). Her sales were slightly down this year, but not bad relative to other areas in the economy.

Joan

Earlie, >>Across the globe, deflation is gathering momentum and even in N. America it is picking up steam.

Druing the last couple of days the boys and girls in the fixed income markets seem to be selling at any price. It looks to me like some folks are betting on inflation. It is going to be interesting.

Joan

About 90 percent of the change in orders the last two months appears to be government orders in the wake of the big defense budgets passed. It sure is difficult to get raw, unadjusted data from the DOC re: orders to really see what's going on. There was a big jump in jobless claims this month but that was basically adjusted out by their forumulas.

up until a few years ago you had to pay about 2Gs to get the latest greatest -- that slumped in 98 to about 1G -- I expect this year sometime we'll see it slump again to 500 or 400 bucks. I don't understand now how they sell these sytstems now for $800 or $900 -- you can get a motherboard for an existing PC for 250 or less that will upgrade you to the best of the best
