OUTPLAY, OUTWIT, OUTLAST... This is a BUY AND HOLD Contest To keep things simple and accurate, especially since this is for valuable prizes (well, cool prizes anyway), I need to ask that everyone pick something they will have to hold through April 1. Kind of makes it harder, right? But that's part of the challenge. Also, we'll all get a better idea of how good we are at intermediate term picks. Should be kinda interesting, huh? Also, the other part of the strategy is this....when do you turn in your pick...Monday? Wednesday? Friday? Whateven you decide, JAN 5 is the deadline! PS - Contest 2 from April through June may be a little different format.

Can you triumph over the evil stock market forces who plot against us little guys and show us how to make money? Are you willing to show the world (well, maybe not the world, but perhaps the faithful 39 people who read this thread) what you're made of? If so, read the rules below and show us how talented and lucky you are. But hurry, entries must be received by JAN 5, 2002 (Midnight). TYPE OF CONTEST This is a "Buy and Hold" contest that sort of flies in the face of what this thread recommends and I am anxious to see if the lack of diversification results in most people losing or making money this quarter. It is perhaps the ultimate test of luck and skill. Next contest starting April 2 will be a lot different with at least 5-10 stock picks allowed. HERE'S THE RULES - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY...PM with questions (1) There are 2 stock categories as listed below. Please send a public or private PM that lists your top picks in both categories as: C1= XXXX and C2 = YYYY (i.e. C1=ORCL and C2=CLAC) CATEGORY 1 = Listed currently as a positive PE stock on SI CATEGORY 2 = Negative or no PE; must be over .25/sh (2) Entries must be received by Jan. 5, 2002. Stock basis is explained below based on the day you submit them. (3) Contest ends April 1, 2002 at 4:15PM EST. (4) You will be given $5,000 "play money" to invest in each stock (rounded up to the nearest share) based on the last closing trade in the 4PM EST session. You get $5,000 mythical "dollars" toward ONE stock that fits CAT 1 criteria and $5,000 mythical "dollars" toward ONE stock that fits CAT 2 criteria. The price basis (price you "pay") is based on the last trading price mentioned by my TD Waterhouse streaming quote for the normal market session closing at 4pm EST of the day you send my your picks. Example: If I receive your picks by 11:59pm Sunday night EST, then you paid is the price listed for the last trade Friday afternoon. If you wait until, say, 7am EST Monday morning then you will "pay" is the price listed on the last trade for the regular session on Monday. So, there is timing involved here and luck, since unexpected news and other events may give one person an advantage over the other, even if they pick the same stock. DISCLAIMER - I guess I should mention some legal stuff, as silly as it sounds. I reserve the right to be the sole arbiter of any disputes and award prizes as best I see fit. If two people mention the same two stocks and there is a tie, then the one who submitted his or her entry first will be the winner. First and second place will be determined by who has the most "money" in their combined account at the end of the contest on April 1st at 4:15 am EST.
