Don: two observations about that fine material from AIER: 1) Given the percentage of the economy that is service related, it would seem crucial to guage the quality issue as it relates to services more than products. My take on this, is that the quality of services has deteriorated markedly over the years in many ways, some obvious, some insidious. This is one way inflation is hidden. 2) People love to say how salaries have gone up over the years, but a simple calculation using their materials shows that my father was earning 4 times my salary in the same occupation 30 years ago.
