to no longer joe b

well i am so badly screwed that i am typing this on a computer in the local library. i wish i had seen your post before i did all the damage. i bought the new partition magic, downloaded it and went ahead with resizing and formatting the c & e drives to ntfs. i figured i could boot to the d w2k, drive and install w2k on the c drive. no luck. the machine will not boot. it runs through the system screens and then stops.

ok. so i figured i'd boot with the w2k system rescue disk, but i could not find it. why, i don't know? it doesn't matter. ok, so i tried to boot with the w98 system disk with cd drivers figuring, even though i no longer had w98 on the system, i could try and install the w2k cd onto the c drive. that didn't work either. the a drive boots and seems to load the cd drivers but i can't get the dc to run.

when i am in a drive, in dos, i switch to d drive, type in windows, hit enter, but it is just a bad command. is there a command to get to windows or am i kidding myself? is this a dos/ntfs thing or just the fact that it has not booted to window so how can it open it?

i though i could possibly reinstall w98 on the c drive so i tried to format c, back to fat 32, from the w98 recovery disk but had no luck. perhaps i should run fdisk first, but the partitions are set, so would that help?

at this point i decided to walk away for a while and seek professional help. i called microsoft support but they want $245 to deal with the problem as i bought the w2k as an oem from multiwave. i said no thanks.

i think that if i can get my hands on a w2k system rescue disk i might be able to boot to d drive, but i am not sure about this. do you think that would help? or is there some way i can access the boot.ini file and change it from dos?

if anyone has any ideas about this, please respond. a friend of my, who lives across town will check the thread for me as the library closes at 5.

i guess it didn't think this whole process through beforehand. bad move on my part.

i have to laugh because i have had a few bad scenes with my computers over the years and have always recovered. i have a little perspective here. just last night i was telling a friend what a good year i had in so many respects. still, i would like to get this straightened out so that i will be able to trade this week.

thanks
