Gilbert, being from north of the 49th and all, you probably haven't heard this OLD American originated joke, but it came to mind as I read your rhetorical question to ECharters regarding his penchant for posting Canadian political issues on this thread.

I'll share it anyway.

There is an old joke in American political history told back during the years of all the hijackings of US Airliners to Cuba (which to Castro's credit he basically got tired of fueling and sending back and put a kabosh on...) but until Castro did, the story goes...

a bunch of bureaucrats were sitting around in the cuban cigar smoke-filled conference room at a local hotel, trying to noodle out just what effective method they hadn't tried yet, to help stem the constantly recurring nightmare of another hijacked US airliner bound for Cuba. Suddenly, one of the politicians jabbed his hand into the air and then slapped his thigh with a resounding "thwack", jerking the whole room's attention and eyes all swung his way!

"I've got it," he cried. "We'll play the Cuba national anthem just before backing out of the chocks at the terminal. And we'll shoot everyone who stands up!!!"

Selah

I use this thread to reply to political issues where I feel it is relevant. They may try to compartmentalize people's comments and issues by referring controversy to it's topic but that is just an attempt at censorship and it is idiotic considering what SI is all about in the first place. It is also true that I only expound an opinion in reply and on the topic of a post. I have rarely started a controversial issue purely to start an issue, or if mentioned in addition to some post, continued it on my own when no reply was made to the topic. Fr. or liberal political control of Canada is relevant to our US-Canadian trade relations, and to the government attitude towards mining and its regulation. Liberal fr. federals appear to like to cost English Canadian mining companies money in other provinces or the NWT (E.G. Chretien's new environmental regs which will affect mining in provinces, a provincial regime, and also his blockage of Diavik premitting by rabble rousing, the manipulation of the NWT into provinces with attendant land claims settlements. etc etc..) as they like to steal control of oil resources. But the same attitude is not evident when it comes to mining in Quebec and energy resources in that province. It's all take and no give. This makes Canadian politics relevant to Canada's ability to mine gold, its costs to mine gold and hence its price. If I got mad at Bush's intitiatives in setting gold roylaties in the States you would not bat an eye. If I called him a psueudo Ivy league mouth breathing puppet and his republican masters blue blooded thieves you would not bat an eye. It would be so relevant. But stick a stick in the eye of fr. Canadian political brigands and all of sudden I have called your baby ugly. It's all about control. Control you think you have. Political control over Canada and control over who can say what about it. It is the fr. tendency to autocracy.
They hate democracy. We have noticed that since King John.

P.S. Check out the smear job on that actor on Law and Order who wanted to start a republican party in Canada. I think Mahoney is his name. Phony press smears and setup court cases left and right. Fr. Liberals made sure it made the front pages. Hmmmm I guess that is par for the course.
