I guess there is no longer a question of whether or not the Palestinians were going to start killing Americans.
That Richard Reid failed doesnt mean that they wont find more willing recruits.

That he could take so many flights, be questioned and watched by El Al, only to have the French let him get on a plane with a bomb is a big hole in security that has to be plugged.

Security forces kill six Palestinians in two incidents in Gaza

By Amos Harel, Ha'aretz Correspondent and Agencies

Israeli security forces killed six armed Palestinians Sunday night in two seperate gunbattles in the northern Gaza Strip.

A force from the Police Special Anti-Terror Unit (Yamam) identified one group of three armed Palestinians as they were attempting to infiltrate into Israel through the border fence that surrounds the Gaza Strip near the village of Beit Hanoun.

The force called on the three to stop. The Palestinians refused and opened fire on the troops and set of an explosive device. The policemen returned fire, killing the infiltrators.

Israel Radio reported that the three infiltrators had explosive devices strapped to their bodies.

Earlier in the evening, an Israel Defense Forces unit shot and killed three armed Palestinians in a gunbattle between the Alei Sinai and Netzarim settlements.

Soldiers from the Givatti brigade identified the three armed men moving towards the settlement, the militants then opened fire upon the armored personnel carrier in which the unit was riding. The soldiers immediately returned fire shooting the three dead. An IDF tank also was at the scene but did not participate in the gunbattle.

No Israelis were injured in the battle.

In response to the incident both Alei Sinai and Nitzanim are on high alert, and residents were told to stay in their homes.

Palestinian security sources said Israeli forces at the settlement had fired four shells and machineguns towards a nearby Palestinian village. They said ambulances had rushed to the scene.

The latest report of violence came on the same day that the army released figures showing that attacks on Israelis had declined in the two weeks since Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat called for them to stop.

Palestinian gunmen infiltrated Alei Sinai on December 2, killing one Israeli and wounding several others. Islamic militants killed two Israelis during an attack on the settlement in early October, triggering retaliation in which at least six Palestinians died.
