That is very funny. Actually, by threatening to murder millions, and already having murdered thousands, of innocent individuals who happen to not share in their faith, Muslims themselves have married the words "Islam" and "evil." Instead of hiring spin doctors who would whitewash state complicity in widespread assault upon those who have never raised a word of intolerance or threat against Islam, perhaps they might arrest and imprison every cleric and jihadist who publicly states his or her solidarity with murdering thugs. Failing that, the image of Islam in the rest of the world will continue to deteriorate. Right now, the free world sees Islam as being led by assassins. For that to change, action must be taken by others - if there are any - who believe in peace and tolerance. Personally, I am not holding my breath... This from today's Jerusalem Post , an Associated Press story, Iran in effect threatens Israel with nuclear attack:In the speech to mark Iran's "Jerusalem Day," Iranian newspapers reported [former President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hashemi] Rafsanjani had said: "If one day - of course this is very important - the world of Islam is mutually equipped with the kind of weapons which Israel presently possesses, the world's arrogant strategy will then come to a dead end, because the use of an atomic bomb on Israel won't leave anything..." ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++jpost.com Iran dismisses Israeli protest over nuclear bomb threat By The Associated Press TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's Foreign Ministry dismissed as unsubstantiated "propaganda" charges from Israel that Iran had threatened Israel with nuclear weapons. "Iran believes Israel, which is in possession of a variety of weapons of mass destruction, is the source of tension in the Middle East region," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi was quoted as saying in Iranian dailies today. "Unsubstantiated remarks by Israeli officials and the propaganda launched by Israel are aimed at preparing the grounds for a new massacres of the Muslim people in Palestine," Asefi said. In a protest last week to the UN Security Council, the European Union and UN Secretary General Kofi, Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres characterized comments in a Dec. 14 speech by former President Hashemi Rafsanjani as an implied Iranian threat to destroy Israel with a nuclear bomb. In the speech to mark Iran's "Jerusalem Day," Iranian newspapers reported Rafsanjani had said: "If one day - of course this is very important - the world of Islam is mutually equipped with the kind of weapons which Israel presently possesses, the world's arrogant strategy will then come to a dead end, because the use of an atomic bomb on Israel won't leave anything, however, in the world of Islam it will just cause harm, and this scenario is not far-fetched." Iran has long opposed Israel's right to exist. In his letter to the foreign ministers of the countries serving on the UN Security Council, the European Union and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, Peres said Rafsanjani's "bone-chilling statements" contradict Iran's claim that it is acquiring nuclear power for peaceful purposes only. "They speak for themselves and leave no room for doubt as to Iran's inherent hatred for Israel and its declared goal to destroy her," Peres wrote. US Congressional experts believe that Iran has purchased long range ballistic missiles from North Korea. Israel has complained repeatedly that Russian nuclear weapons technology has been reaching Iran, but the Russian government insisted that the nuclear technology it was supplying to Iran was for peaceful purposes only. Officially, Israel will neither confirm nor deny whether it has nuclear capability but pledges not to be the first in the region to use such weapons. Israel says its nuclear plant in the Negev Desert is for peaceful research and industry.
