Good point George, I've often thought an above ground monorail system would work well for Seattle. They already have a small one, and it's a joy to ride. Seems to me extending it around the city and into Bellevue would be something people would use on a regular basis.

I would especially like to see a line from the ferries to SEATAC airport. I decided a few years ago to use public transportation to pick up my brother at the airport and it was a real pain. The system is set up so that you have to walk from the ferries to 4th street in order to catch a buss to the airport. If you've ever been to Seattle, you know this is basically a straight up hill climb. Consequently, practically everyone drives the hour and a half to the airport from the Kitsap Penninsula. And adds significantly to the congestion on I-5.

I seem to remember a buss driver came up with a detailed plan which used this monorail concept a few years ago. But the Governor showed zero leadership in acknowledging the value of it. After all, he hadn't spent millions in study after study paying off his constituants, so the idea was obviously flawed.

I also read somewhere (not sure where), that Washington State spent 4 billion dollars on roads in the past 5 years, yet only built 7 new miles.
