Intel, Microsoft headed for hyperthreading bust up

Corporations will demand an answer.

This is going to be a tough one for Microsoft. Turning on support for dual processors is the most important difference between XP and XP Pro. For Microsoft to allow SMP in Win XP would be like Intel giving up its premium for Pentium vs. Celeron. In both cases, products with nearly identical functionality and performance are segmented into different markets with very few differing characteristics.

Charles, Re : "maui, $40B would be book value or less for Intc. I don't think it's going there."
