When I started to get engaged in this subject on the thread, I had no particular leanings towards a single payer system. Though it bothered me why the richest western country, with plenty of medical facilities and staff had such a poor statistical record on infant mortality and life expectancy. It's fairly easy to grab a story here or there about one of those other western countries that have waiting lists for non-emergency procedures or inadequate diagnostic testing facilities...but that "should" have a negative impact on infant mortality and life expectancy.

The more you dig into the subject, the more it seems that US persons, don't have the access to the finest medical system in the world....unless you've got money.

We've got plenty of breast and pec implants, lot's of liposuction and face lifts, but we're dying prematurely as a country. Not exactly a distilled characterization that one should be proud of.
