You think he would have told you differently? By the way, it is not so much "manipulation" but the flow back and forth of investors sentiments. "Them" are still there, them may not be the "trading desks" per se (though I doubt they have a dictum of being flat at the end of each day independently of where the market is). As usual they stand against the wind, and end up with net long positions that increase as the market sinks and increasing short positions as the market soar toward local peaks.

Karl, I was wondering if you could get back to your friend, that "one of them", who doubted last December that them will bring the market back to the September lows to "replenish" their inventory. I am sure, "them" will have a rational but different interpretation (all in jest, Carl).
