Matt

Don't you mean:

Type 'copy boot.ini D:\'

since he has W2000 installed on D?

these library machines are set up so that you can only surf the web or check the catalogue so i will have to go to another machine. i am going somewhere else to deal with this.

thanks for all you help so far.

ok. it just got worse. here i am at my friend's house using his computer to try for the second time to copy this boot.ini file. the first time i took it back to my computer it read it as "bootin~1 ini". not sure what went wrong but i copied it again. and named it again. i will take it back to my house and try it again.

the bad part is that i accidently saved the boot.ini file to my friends computer in the "windows" folder. now i don't know if i over wrote an existing boot.ini file that i have to restore or just added one that i can easily remove.
he only has w95 on this machine. it is not a dual boot computer. does it need a boot.ini and if so what would it be?

this is entering the realm of slapstick.

thanks
belker

I'm a friend of Belker's; he can't get to a computer, so he gave me this message over the phone to type for him.

I have at this time successfully copied the boot.ini file to the c drive, but in effect the c drive is actually the emergency ram drive, as someone just pointed out to me. When I try to copy the ini file to the d drive, I get the message that access is denied. When I try to boot the ini to e drive, I get the message cdr101 not ready reading drive e. All other attempts going up the alphabet yield invalid drive specification. I'm fried, I'm gonna have a beer. Tomorrow I'm going to try to get to a computer.
