I think it's easier to get wiped out as a bear because the vehicles are leveraged.

But the bulls are coming back. Otoh, I didn't see many of the "wiped out bears from the bubble" return to make money during the actual bear of the last 2 years. Maybe the bulls liked the social experience of investing better.

I do not believe one is classified as a bull or a bear in general. Some felt that many stock were way overpriced from 1998-2000. That does not mean many of them feel that way now. The leverage loss on a short position is higher and most loss more money being short is my guess.
