Actually, that was in the 80386 timeframe. AMD's peak was with the 80386 40 MHz processor. The fastest Intel had was a 80386 33MHz, but the 80486 25MHz was just around the corner. Intel had a history of limiting their max. clock rate to push their next generation, AMD had no such qualms. That went all the way back to the 8086/88, where Intel capped their clock rate at 8 MHz, but AMD saw fit to push it to 12.5MHz...

JC, I just roughed the sum of AMD, Via and transmeta at approaching 40%. The sum is probably just a bit shy of that.
, maybe 35-38%. Via might have as much as 8-10% in this quarter as we have seen how well they are doing on the integrated el cheapo boards. Mush less in $$ shares though, since all Via stuff is very low cost.
transmeta may have trouble even reaching 1%, who knows.
