I discovered something weirdly helpful regarding SI timing out. Out of frustration I clicked on the thread title in my bookmarks list, rather than the qty of unread posts. It worked for me with no hesitation. It is just one extra step to scroll to the first unread message, but I have avoided timing out that way if the normal procedure hangs up. I don't know why that works, but one should not look a gift horse in the mouth, eh?
