Hi Gottfried, do you have a new prediction for a recovery in the SCE sector?

I don't see it happening this year. Utilization rates will remain under the level required for capacity buys as there does not appear to be any major driver for significant increases in chip sales. The computer market is saturated and is now a replacement market. Cell phones are close to that point.

There will of course be some technology buys. However this will add somewhat to capacity keeping utilization rates down.

My prediction: $5.5 billion in sales for AMAT in 2002 and earnings of $0.40/share.

Al

EDIT: This may be the first year ever for the NASDAQ to close down on Dec 31.
