Hi Nadine Carroll; Of course you're thinking of the Palestinian situation. My problem with the Israelis is that they refuse to either, in the American idiom, "crap or get off the pot".

If they want peace with the Palestinians they should allow them to advance economically. Heck, they should be allowing the import of Palestinian made goods at an advantage. They should be loaning money to Palestinian businessmen. They should be offering free healthcare, etc. Instead they're keeping the Palestinian areas poor - and angry.

If they want to subject the Palestinians they should kill every one of them who publicly expresses support for suicide bombers. After they kill the first few thousand, it's likely that the rest will become quiet. (That means killing mostly civilians, but who is supporting the Palestinian terrorist organizations?) But they don't do this. Instead they kill, at most, a few Palestinians per day. Heck, the natural rate of increase of the population there is around 232 per day:

In other words, Israel's behavior is doomed to failure.

I believe that the only thing less moral than war is to fight a war without the intention of winning. That is what was wrong with America's involvement in Vietnam. Israel's fight against the Palestinians is wrong for the same reason.

Israel's actions towards the Palestinians suffer from the same "gradualism" that the US had towards Vietnam. The way to get humans to knuckle under to force is to apply massive quantities of it. All that Israel is doing is training another generation of more effective fighters.

When most little piss-ant countries do stupid foreign policies I couldn't care less. The reason the Palestinian / Israeli situation attracts my attention is because the US is allied with those goof-balls, and that means we're targeted by those fighters that the Israelis are training.

If Israel wants to make the Palestinians knuckle under to force, they should start killing a few thousand per day. That will end the intifada in the course of a few days. While cruel in the short term, this will result in fewer Palestinian deaths than the thousands that are dying as the years pass by, and much fewer Israeli deaths, and it will bring the situation to a close.

If Israel doesn't have the military might to do this, (perhaps because the local Arabs countries will gang up on her), then she needs to recognize the futility of the situation and do something else. Either close the borders, or start waging peace.

The war that Israel is waging is hopeless, and therefore immoral.

As for the war that the Palestinians are waging, my analysis is that they are winning. Therefore, their war is less immoral than the Israeli one. It's quite rational for the Palestinians to expect to achieve an eventual victory.
