Hello teevee,

That happily and fortunately provided me with an education that wasn't as parochial as that received by most Americans, and a perspective that is not distorted by "red, white and blue" tinted glasses.

I personally find this pretty obnoxious. Even if you feel this way, it is boorish in the extreme to go around spouting it. Please show a little more respect for your threadmates (or me in particular) in the future.

Thanks for your cooperation,
--FaultLine

<I am not a US citizen.>

I know.

<That happily and fortunately provided me with an education that wasn't as parochial as that received by most Americans, and a perspective that is not distorted by "red, white and blue" tinted glasses.>

Apparently you missed the classes where "hypocrite", "bigot", and "self-contradictory" were defined...

<<On another topic, I see Uncle Sam and his preferred suppliers are having troubles with the "just in time manufacturing" system applied so well by the automotive industry. Apparently a shortage of cruise missiles is holding up the invasion of Iraq. >>

You can rest easy, the US has plenty of cruise missiles. It's not a "just in time manufacturing" deal. The US built up a supply of cruise missiles and shut down production. The next generation has been scheduled to go into production in 2002 for some time. More whistles and bells than what is being used now. Supposedly a real upgrade.

For the USA, its very power, security, way of life and high standard of living are dependant upon plentiful, cheap oil, gas, energy, and other commodities.

And considering that Canada and most of the rest of the world is heavily dependent upon the the economic wealth of the United States, I wouldn't be looking a gift horse in the mouth.

When the largest economy in the world catches a cold, the rest of you will catch pneumonia.

Thus, until Canada achieves economic independence, you have no choice but to look through those "red, white, and blue" tinted glasses. Our fate is ultimately yours.

Hawk

tv, your non-US education has some holes:

Your post implies that the US is somehow dependent on cheap commodities and energy from other countries to sustain its economy. Nothing can be further from the truth. The US is in fact a big commodity exporter. Other countries are dependent on cheap US commodities, especially food. The only vital US commodity dependence on other countries, oil and gas, represents a relatively small proportion of the total energy consumed by the US, and can be eliminated, if the US chooses to reduce demand by imposing energy taxes similar to those in Europe and Japan.

If push comes to shove, the US is uniquely equipped to "go it alone" with zero dependence on other countries.
