Year to date, Enron is down more than 99 percent. Had Enron remained in the S&P 500, it would have eclipsed Providian's decline of nearly 94 percent.

The following is a table of the S&P 500's top five gainers and losers for 2001, based on unofficial data after the close of trade on Monday: Company Percent Change

---------------------------------------------------------

NVIDIA Corp..........................................+308

Office Depot .................................+160

Best Buy Co Inc ..............................+152

AutoZone .....................................+152

J.C. Penney ..................................+147

-------------

Corning Inc. ..................................-83

US Airways ......................................-84

Applied Micro Circuits Corp ..................-85

Thanks, you too. I hope it's a good one for you and all the thread ...

I guess for DOW components those are pretty wide swings, but they look positively staid compared to the SP500 numbers.

Still, they beg the question: should we buy Merck and Boeing this year, or reverse the strategy and short the dogs at the top? <g>
