Fake money, euro and dollar:
The euro bill could have been made more difficult to counterfeit, in many ways, but it was decided not worth the cost, one step at a time.
That is, important amounts of counterfeit bils are a a somewhat complex issue, and interstingly mostly grey money, big sacks of them, are the mostly important one, of little importance with in the lectronic international transfers of money today.
Obviously the dollar bills will stay the base for far away domestic transactions, africa, afghanistan and many more.
It is actually pretty fun to think about the race, competition for that special market, obviously the playing ground for the dollar and sterling during the last year. (2/3 of the dollars, don't know about the sterling)
What CNBC-UK has been mudwresling in is mainly
- 11 printing machines producing euro bills, not just two like in USA.
- CIA responsible for checking bills within USA, but not outside. (No CIA in euro-land, CNBC-UK would like one??)
- that issue of laser punched "micro holes" here and there on the bills, what the, in many respects, unique switzerland bills use, plus a guarantee of no tracks left, if the sack of money is just carried into a bank, lifted through the bullet proof hole, past the guards.
All of this should obviously be connected (like that Burke-guy) with the present process of figuring out another base for productivity but the blessing of tax evasions for that regular list of small banking nations.
Plus the little fact that very little "mechanic money" is used within most of euro land, soon even most of the beer will be paid with a SMS text message. (I believe finland has the highest ratio of electronic money to mechanic money)
The additional spice is obviously the US demand on tracking terrism money, one FBI list on alleged suspects, name and telephone number, already got some funny headlines over here, especiallyon who answered the phone (hospitals, nuns, etc).

Btw, Gibaltar, HongKong,Macao etc are not what they were, Luxemburg has agreed to converge, Monaco too, Lichtensten seem to have done the same, London City still deals widely in tax evasion euro-bonds, and it is my understanding that the Cayman Islands are under some EU-US long term agreement.
My personal reference is this little island between finland and sweden, outside EU, as nobody really want to bankrupt them, instead they can continue with tax free alcohol and a little gambling, maybe much like that channel island??
My real favorite is that the same tax free alcohol subsidies now have moved from strengthening the finnish-swedish bonds (those ferries going back and forth, tax free) to both the finnish-estionian and finland-st petersburg area. Traveling is obviously subsisidiesed heavily with tax free alcohol as well as gas.even t-shirts, 12 hours is cheaper on the ferry than in a local restaurant and motel.
The normal gas-station just on the other side of the russian border gets a truckload of finnish gas in the morning, poored into the gas station tank just bought from finland, sold to the finns coming over the border to get gas at 1/3 the cost, and slowly builds a local economy, t-shirt stores, piratized music and windoze CDs, even some grocery stores.
Additionally we can clearly directly follow the market price on afghanistan puppy, although i do not know the latest movements since the talibans stopped the production. (but we try to export free injection needles to keep HIV under some kind of control)
What we all have little understanding of are these issues of NATO expanding here or there. |
