Herb, Re: $998 Box not close to top end.

I don't know where you're coming from but I'm running a box I put together last spring for under $600. It was pretty hot last spring. If I couldn't replace it now for around the same price but at 1.5MHz I'd be surprised.

Athlon ~ 800. 128M ram. a couple of small hard drives. a $20 cd rom. a $50 video card. sound on the MOBO. The monitor isn't part of the system. It stays while the rest of the parts come and go.(It's a nice Mitsubichi 21")

And if you're thinking a 1.5G XP with 2 20 ~ 40G hard drives, on any decent MOBO and any video for *WAY* under $600 isn't convertable to high end for under $300 I'd say you & I disagree.

The only way you can get close to $1K is by adding stuff like top quality monitor, speakers, printer, scanner, gps, TV/FM, 5 year subscription to MSN, blow ...

Nope, that stuff isn't part of my definition of a system.
