<As for UN, when it resembles the values and political process similiar to the US, or some other stable democratic system, I might be inclined to grant it more direct military power and where some elements of US sovereignty might be subverted to it. But it's got a long way to go, before more of a responsible governing body, than the current breeding ground of priviledged politicians seeking to steal from the US and give to their own poor nations. But I do long for the day when American troops won't be required to unilaterally be deployed overseas to slay the world's dragons.> Well, you can have your wish, almost any time you like. All it takes is popular will and it will happen. The UN simply cannot change in the way that's needed until the constituent nations change the constitution of it. That will take leadership from George W, Tony Blair, Jacques Chirac, Hu Jintao and Jiang Zemin, Vladimir Putin, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Gerhard Shroeder, Junichiro Koizumi, Mqurice, You and Tekuboi-san. The permanent members with veto, the Security Council and all that stuff has to be disassembled and reconstructed in the right way. Let's call it Perestroika. Maybe Gorby would like to convene a meeting. I bet those politicians would all love to be the one who was there at the founding. Their populations would love it if it was done right. So, how about getting Tekuboi-san to hassle his Beltway Buddies and get it done? Faultline, it's your job to check up on Hawk and make sure he doesn't go to sleep on the job. If the Wacko Euros can organize a common currency, [give or take a few reprobates like the Poms, Danes and Swedes] it should be a doddle to tidy up the UN into the real thing. They could have a meeting 20.02.2002 to get it started and issue Communique 1 at 20.02 20.02.2002 to the world. That is an EXTREMELY auspicious time and date to do so; right on the cusp of history. An amazing palindrome, sitting there, waiting for such an event. Will the world let it slide by? So, let's go. Or, as you say, Let's Roll <Well, it's a brand new year and I'm on a roll >. Mqurice
