Remember, NSA stood for No Such Agency for many years and its cost (many, many billions) didn't show up in the public budget.

Never heard of them. Never heard of the NRO either. I did know someone that worked at Area 51...scratch that. Area 51 never exisited....that person I know never existed either.

Seriously, interesting show on Area 51 the other night. There were a number of cases of personnel at Area 51 that developed scale like skin [no joke]. Two people died and the remaining people took the government to court to find out what toxins were at the place.

The attorney said it was like a Felini movie...the government wouldn't admit Area 51 existed...you could see it from the road, but the government said it wasn't there!

Finally they got past that hurdle. Then they got the govenment to admit that their were trenches the size of a football field that they filled with toxins, covered with jet fuel and then burned....all upwind of quarters and buildings...but in the end...the people were not allowed to know what toxins they were exposed to, and the autopsies of dead people were classified....but the government was ordered not to do whatever it was that the were doing any more. And another happy ending.

Shall I say it <s>...You're perfectly safe.

the States can take care of there own federal highways.
Um. maybe. The federal gov't does reserve the right to take control of federal highways at any time.

The States should send a big thank you to the Feds for putting the Federal Highways in to begin with. In the DC area, there is usually some story during the year about a bunch of Virginia, DC and Maryland government children arguing over who is responsible for taking care of what bridge or road. Including who is supposed to send an ambulance to an accident scene. Or who's suppose to fix a pothole..or send a snow plow...will the feds replace my bridge; they put it there the first time. Pleeeease.

Screw 'em. The feds can use imminent domain to temporarily have access if it comes push to shove.

Document name? And may I point out that 78-79 is not quite the right time period? Reagan took office in 1980. This is like saying there never was a French Revolution because it hadn't occurred by 1788.
And it is well known that the CIA was caught totally offguard by the collapse of the USSR. Of course their documents are going to show it! If they did, they wouldn't have been completely surprised.

So you think the CIA is going to cooperate with me and rewrite an analysis with the proper dates? Sometimes you have to work for things. Why is it incumbent on me to disprove the hypothesis, i.e, the Soviets went bankrupt in response to Reagan's spending? Did Einstein throw E=MC*2 on the table and say prove me wrong?

You know that there was no buildup of nuclear forces; there was no increase in the Soviet ABM system...where did they spend the money? They responded to Reagan's SDI expenditures by taking over Grenada? They invaded Afghanistan in response to SDI? By all rights, it should be incumbent on you to show me where the money was spent. So far the argument is...it's been said a thousand time, so it must be true.

There was a story earlier this year on some Senate hearings that said the Reagan was briefed upon entering office that the Soviets were broke and unable to pay their military at that time. I've looked for the story and can't find it. It's either expired or it's buried in a morass of links on every conceivable conspiracy theory that you'll find if you use a search tool trying to find it.

So I should look up the exact title at the National Archives, so you can say it's the wrong years, or who believes the CIA? Why would I possibly want to do that?
