01/01 22:21 Hynix Raises Chip Prices for 3rd Time Within 30 Days(Update1)

Seoul, Jan. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Hynix Semiconductor Inc., the third-largest maker of computer memory chips, said it raised the price of chips for the third time in less than a month.

Hynix raised it long-term contract prices, the price of chips sold to makers of personal computers, by 30 percent, reflecting gains by the spot market price for the semiconductor, spokeswoman Kang In Young said.

The spot price of the 128-megabit dynamic random access memory chip has risen 61 percent since the beginning of December as PC makers ran out of inventory and placed orders.

The price of the chips had declined every day between May and November, taking the semiconductor below the cost of production for most manufacturers.
