GV,

re: So then you believe that you'll receive a normal return for the coming year, say 10%?

I would guess that the return might be a little better. But it's pretty difficult on Jan 2 to predict where the market, or a stock, will close on Dec 31, 2002. Heck, you could be up 15% on Nov 1, break even on Dec 31, and be up 5% 30 days later. But I would bet that we will see the market 10%+ higher at some time during the next 12 months. And I do believe the intermediate trend is towards higher stock prices. (My opinion is worth what you just paid for it.)

GV,

re: And Intel, as a well understood large cap with lower risk than a smaller cap issue like AMD, should return 7 or 8%, right?

Funny, if I had bought INTC when you posted that (~$31.80), and sold as I'm posting this ($34.22), I would already have my 7 to 8%.
