For many years, the Club of Rome predicted that we would soon run out of essential commodities, like oil. Then Neo- Malthusians predicted that the Population Explosion would so radically impact most societies by the turn of the century that some kind of socialism would be inevitable, to avoid mass starvation and plague. Then we were told that America was experiencing inevitable decline as a great power, and that American style capitalism would be eclipsed by the "managed" capitalism of the Asian Tigers. I didn't believe them then, and I was right. I am right to regard global warming as falling short as an emergency, as well......
