Most of these incidents were alcohol-related, police said. Officers responded to more than 100 calls for help from midnight to 4 a.m. 1:30 a.m. Officers responded to a fight in the 200 block of Marion Street. Upon arrival they discovered a large amount of blood in a parking lot and heard the sounds of a fight coming from inside an apartment nearby. The residents refused to allow the officers entry to check the welfare of the persons inside, and officers forced entry, despite the apartment's occupants barricading the door with furniture. Two injured persons were located inside. One arrest was made for battery, one person was arrested on an outstanding warrant, and a number of citations were issued for obstructing an officer and underage drinking violations. 2:25 a.m. Officers responded to the 5000 block of Old Middleton Road for a large fight involving 20-30 people. One subject sustained serious head injuries (non-life-threatening) after being struck by a tire iron during the fight. He was treated at a local hospital. 3:45 a.m. An intoxicated subject locked out of his apartment in the 10 block of N. Bassett Street climbed onto a second floor balcony in an attempt to enter. He fell, sustaining significant injuries (believed to be non-life-threatening). He was treated at a local hospital. 2:32 a.m. Officers responded to the 5800 block of Anchorage Avenue for an intoxicated driver that had crashed into a clump of trees. Responding officers discovered that the driver fled the scene of the accident on foot, then forced his way into a nearby home. While in the home, the suspect did extensive damage to furniture and other items before being apprehended by officers. 3:09 a.m. A driver drove his vehicle off of the 300 block of North Marquette Street and it rolled over, ending up in Starkweather Creek. The driver was not injured and was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
