albert, re: "In the overall U.S. market, according to Gartner Dataquest, AMD experienced considerable PC processor market share growth, from 17 percent in the third quarter 2000 to 27 percent in the third quarter 2001."

Isn't this a contradiction from Dataquest's previous numbers? I believe they originally called AMD's Q3 MSS at 21.7%, down from 22.5% in the second quarter (sorry, this is off the top of my head, so I may be slightly off). Now, they are claiming 27%. That's a mighty huge correction. I'm guessing that there might be some kind of miscommunication, somewhere.

Mad Dilbert - Re: "Idid some digging and 27% indeed came out of dataquest but it referred not
global but only to US market"

That report covers the THIRD QUARTER - the quarter before AMD COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED from the US retail market.

"AMD announced it has posted impressive year over year market share
gains based on shipments for both the commercial and consumer markets
worldwide, according to the Gartner Dataquest quarterly report for the
third quarter of 2001
.(a)"

DipShit Albert - Re:"27% indeed came out of dataquest but it referred not global but only to US market"

You conceal that the source you cited for 27% came from AMD -- NOT DATAQUEST. You are a bold faced liar. AMD conveniently provided no definition of what constituted the market in its press release.

If you dig further, you would find that the AMD claim comes from something like the "Japan consumer market" where most home -- and very few rice paddy farmers -- have computers. And most of the homes that have computers are supplied by companies, definitely not consumer purchasers.
