Re: "Based on AMD's statement that they have 200 potential die on a 8" wafer, meaning whole raw die, 115 is almost exactly what would be expected from a normal fab with normal defect density. Actually my model says 116. So 115 is normal but hardly anything to brag about. Another report I saw had the total whole die at 235. For that a yield of 115 would be very bad."

OK, so AMD is middle of the road. How would Intel yield with the same die size?

I am inclined to think AMD is very middle of the road and 115 is probably the correct yield. At 200 total whole die, 115 is very mediocre and you could get that from any Taiwan fab. The low output is best explained by poor binsplits and unsaleable parts rather than defective die.

I have to disagree on this one. Getting only 115 good die out of 200 is extreamly Bad Yield, nothing close to what is expected from a normal Fab with normal defect densities. If my microprocessor Fab was getting only 115/200 (57.5%) yield, I'd shut down the line until it was discovered what was wrong.
