Constantine, Re: "I wish I had more data points to reach a definite conclusion but it seems that the P4 was stretched to its limits to reach 2G."

Not that I take any stock in overclocking as a measurement of CPU headroom, but you should know that many people have claimed greater than 5% overclocks on the 2GHz Pentium 4. I've seen plenty of people in the range of 2.2GHz to 2.4GHz with air cooling, which constitutes 10-20%. If you want to verify, check out some of the forums on overclocking webpages. Now I'm wondering where you get your data.

C, keep in mind that it's a lot harder to overclock the Pentium 4 because the multiplier is locked. That means you have to raise the speed of the FSB, which means the chipset, memory, AGP, PCI, and other I/O must also run faster. That's a lot of variables that must be taken into account.

Those overclocking AMD's processors can modify the multiplier thanks to those connectors on the chip package. This makes the processor the only variable in the overclocking picture.

Re: What % does each speed grade of both CPUS overclock on average

Nice table, very interesting.
