Go with Mandrake. Without a doubt.

It worked well for me. I wasn't a Linux power-user at the time I chose that distro. And glad I chose it. Much faster learning curve. And very easy to setup. Just be very careful if you are setting it up on a laptop, because it can really give you problems with your network card. I had to learn how to configure Linux from the core to get my card to work.

I was in the same position regarding expereince. I played with Slackware about 2 or 3 years ago and then dropped it, because I had way too much going on to learn a new OS. But now I am an old man and am finding time to learn them. And Linux is a very cool (and powerful) system to learn.
