<<history shows people are irresponsible.>>

History actually proves quite the contrary, as well as that all governments tend toward tyranny, and must be diligently lashed down...

I really liked your response E.T.

It is simply that children need to be taught how to take responsibility for every aspect of their lives. I worked with adolescents in a school setting for 13 years. The ones who were called on the carpet to account for their errant behavior always ended up the better for it. I learned through them and my own children that kids thrive when they are taught how to be responsible. If taught properly all children learn the importance of what is good for themselves and society. They grow into whole individuals with positive outlooks and a huge sense of who they are. They are the kids that always manage to go beyond their capabilities.

It was always the self centered, me, me, me kids that were the loneliest, most angry and most confused. They are the kids that are born to parents that make one excuse after another on behalf of their children. These kids are never held responsible, they are the ones that grow big chips on their shoulders. Once kids learn that the world doesn't revolve around them, and that what they do creates repercussions way beyond themselves, they come around really fast.

I admit that there will probably always be accidental pregnancies but I wish every adult understood the simple concept of teaching personal responsibility and passed it along to all children. The world would be a better place.
