Jim, Re: AMD PR rating is TOO conservative even for the P4-Norwegianwood. Another AMD PR blunder...

Because AMD's model rating is conservative it is working so excellent. Right now AMD's PR is doing about everything right that they can IMO. Let's see how they respond to the Northwood launch before making any judgements.

Jim:

Looks like AMD is putting in check anything that INTCy brings to the marketplace...and with the recent trend of XP pricing beginning to encroach meaningfully on that of p4, that can only spell GOOD news for AMD!!!

If that is the case, then it will be fixed in a few speed grades. Remember, for every 100 value worth of their rating that they ascend, their core clock frequency only goes up 66.7MHz, so their advantage over the Northwood (if they have one) decreases with each step up, assuming no per-clock improvements.

Additionally, Northwood will soon be getting a 33% boost in memory and chipset speeds, which will increase per-clock performance. Have you considered that AMD might be taking this into account?
